Hey, Dad - Can I Borrow the Smite Button?
Dad, do you mind if I borrow the Smite Button for the day? It seems like you could use a little help in this category. Frankly, Dad, I'm a little disappointed. It's been 10 years since the terrorist attacked and, honestly, I thought there would be a whole lot more smiting going on. So, if you don't mind, just let me borrow it Sunday, 9/11.
Now, there are a few things I would like to know about this button before I use it. First, does it have a "Group Feature"? I mean, if it does, I'll just send a note to Leon Panetta and let him know to prepare to bring our troops home on the 12th. Because, given a few minutes and a push of a button, we won't lose another one of our own.
I know, before I hit the button, I'll be sure to offer up a prayer for them - I mean, you do say to love our enemies. I'll make sure I give them a couple of minutes to make a decision.
And if you don't mind, while I have the button, I think I'll do a little more clean-up for You. I'm thinking about those that exploit our kids. Use them in horrendous ways. Dad, you've been a little lax on this front. So, I'll offer up a prayer for them and then "SMITE"! Of course, by this time, you might want to let St. Pete know that there will be a few extra visitors on the 11th.
We have a little clean-up down south of us as well. I mean, we can't even get over the border to take Your Word down to those who really need to hear it because of these drug cartels and bullets flying. Dad, we really don't want to put our high school kids in the line of fire. I know You know that and, really, we trust you to do just about anything keeping us safe - but, you know, just one stray bullet and, well we just can't have our kids hurt spreading the gospel. You understand, I'm sure.
Of course Lord, I want to give You all the credit for this! Far be it for me to take the credit! I mean, when the world gets the news that the Smite Button has been dusted off, then I'm sure there's a bunch of folks that will fall back into the straight and narrow! I certainly want to give You all the Glory! I worship you! And you know I'm only thinking about You in doing this!
But, I have to ask a favor Dad. I mean, yes, all these groups could use a little smiting. But, I have a few personal ones that I want to use it for as well. I promise not to get slap happy and go around smiting everyone, but just a few. You know, there are a few people who have had some "not so" true statements to say about your kids down here. I mean, I really do love everyone - you told us to love You and love our neighbor. I really try to do that! Even at church, we put this sign on the marque and I know that is very inviting.
And really, who can drive by that church and not think they are welcome? And when they come in the door, we do everything we can to welcome them - that is if they look like they would belong. We sure wouldn't want to let the wrong crowd in, now would we Dad? So, if you don't mind, let me flip that switch to manual and I'll just pick off a few that believe we might be a little self-righteous.
Well, thanks Dad. I'll be looking for my answer. And here will be the sign. When I walk into my office Sunday morning before church to spend a little time with You, I'll see that little red button sitting on my desk.
Love ya Dad!!!
Your son,
David
